Overseas Advantages for Study in Canada

Canada, the land of bountiful opportunities, welcomes professionals seeking Permanent Residency under Skilled Worker category. With the right education, skills, relevant work experience, proficiency in language (English/French) besides satisfying other criteria, you can make Canada your permanent home.
Canada is one of the best countries in which to live. The quality of life is extremely high. It provides a very comfortable standard of living, good health care, efficient social security, quality public education, low crime rate, stable and growing economy, and clean environment.
Canada, the second largest country in area in the world, supports and advocates a free and democratic society. The Canadian constitution, called the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, guarantees everyone the right to equality, mobility, and freedom of speech, assembly and association.
Immigration Programs
Canada is one of the few countries in the world with an active program for permanent immigration. In fact, Canada accepts more immigrants and refugees, in proportion to its population, than any other country.
One out of every six Canadian residents was born outside the country. Directly or indirectly, immigration policy has touched the lives of every Canadian, and it has helped make Canada a culturally rich, prosperous and progressive nation.
Citizenship and Immigration assesses immigrants and visitors on standards, which do not discriminate on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, or sex. In addition, the immigration program is universal — applicants from around the world are assessed against exactly the same criteria.
Natural Resources
Canada is a land of great natural beauty. With its Atlantic and Pacific coasts, vast forests, mountain ranges, lakes and sprawling prairie, Canada is rich in natural resources. In addition to the main landmass, it has numerous islands and has the world’s largest number of lakes and inland waters.
Much of Canada is in the Earth’s Frigid Zone and experiences severe winter weather. The rest of Canada is in the Earth’s North Temperate Zone and has more moderate four-season climate.
Politics
The federal government is responsible for such national matters as foreign affairs, national defense, trade and commerce. It also shares many powers with the provincial governments. The provincial government takes care of education, transportation, health, and social services.
The municipal government controls local matters such as police, schools, garbage collection, and property taxes. It is headed by a mayor with representatives acting as councilors.
Canada is an independent constitutional monarchy and has three tiers of government: federal, provincial, and municipal (for towns and cities).
Canada’s head of state is the Queen of England. She is represented by the Governor General in Canada and has a mainly symbolic role.
Judicial System
In Canada, federal, provincial, and municipal governments pass laws. The courts interpret and enforce the laws, although separate from the government. There are different types of courts dealing with different areas of the law. The Canadian court system consists of three levels: trial courts, appeal courts, and the Supreme Court of Canada, which is the court of final appeal. Interpreters who speak your language are available upon request to assist you in court.
Health and Welfare
The federal and provincial governments share social welfare responsibility. The federal government administers national programs such as the Canada Pension Plan, Canada Assistance Plan, old-age security pensions, family allowances, youth allowances, and unemployment insurance.
Financial aid is provided to the provinces by the federal government for public assistance programs. Local governments provide for and administer most public assistance programs. Health and Welfare Canada is the federal agency that administers health matters.
All Canadian residents are granted medical coverage under the national Medical Care Insurance Program also known as Medicare. The program provides comprehensive coverage for all medically required services rendered by physicians and surgeons on a nonprofit basis.
Economy
Canada is one of the most industrialized countries in the world. Its abundant natural resources supply the raw materials. Agriculture is the main economic activity but industrialization has outstripped the land-based economy and established itself.
Industrialization has created a great demand for workers. The need for professionals and skilled workers prompted the Canadian government to allow immigration as a method to fill the void in areas where local residents are unable or unwilling to meet local demand.
The Federal Skilled Worker Class
A priority occupation is one that the Government of Canada has identified after extensive consultations as being in high demand. You must have at least one year of continuous work experience in this occupation to be eligible to apply as a federal skilled worker.
Immigration has always helped to make Canada’s economy strong and prosperous. To continue this tradition, Canada encourages skilled worker applications for Permanent Residence from people with skills, education and work experience that will contribute to the Canadian economy.
You may qualify under the Federal Skilled Worker program if you meet the following criteria:
You have at least one year of experience in one of the 29 qualifying occupations on the Priority Occupation List continuously for a period of at least one year, within the last ten years, as per the recent immigration policy introduced on 26th June 2010.
You have Arranged Employment i.e. full-time permanent job offer from a reputed Canadian employer approved by Services Canada..
You submit the language proficiency test results at the time of filing the application
In addition there are various other factors on which an individual is assessed in order to immigrate to Canada. The aspirant must attain at least 67 points based on Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s (CIC) immigration selection factors outlined below:
    Age
                Education
                Language Proficiency
                Work Experience
                Arranged Employment

Overseas Study in Canada

The structure of Canadian education system includes kindergarten, elementary/junior high/middle school, secondary/high school and post-secondary education. Education in Canada is administered by each provincial and territorial government hence there are some differences between the education systems in each province and territory. All provinces and territories offer free and universal elementary and secondary schooling for 12 years, except Quebec where it is up to 11 years. Education is mandatory to the age of between 15 and 18, based on the province.
Kindergarten
Education generally begins with kindergarten. British Columbia and Ontario also provide Junior Kindergarten. In some areas, kindergarten is either not needed or it is not available at all. Generally, five years old children enter kindergarten.
Elementary
Elementary school generally includes grades one through six (for students aged approximately six to 12 years), when junior high school is the next step. In some areas, elementary school is stretched up to grade eight.
Secondary
Secondary school, often called high school, generally runs grades 9 through 12. In regions having middle school and junior high, it also includes grades 7 and 8.
Post-secondary
Post-secondary education is also termed as Career College, Vocational School, Community College, University and Grad School. At this level you can earn a Bachelor\’s degree, and can continue studies to acquire a Master\’s or a Doctorate degree. Vocational students can earn certificates and diplomas that can count as an added skill in various trades.
Public and Private
Canada\’s education system encompasses public schools, which are free and funded by the government, and private schools, for which students have to pay. At the post-secondary level, public colleges and universities still need students to pay tuition, but it is comprehensively less than tuition at private universities.
Life in Canada
Canada is a large country. The land area of 9,984,670 square kilometers makes it the second biggest country in the world. Canada perhaps is the only country in the world that is rarely in the news for any controversial issues. It is known to be a peace loving and one of the most preferred countries to migrate to. Following are a few fun facts about Canada, that make this country stand apart from the rest.
An unusual fact about Canada is its name origin, it comes from a St. Lawrence Iroquoian word, kanata, which means village or settlement.
An interesting fact about Canada is that it\’s the world\’s largest country area wise (including its waters),
It also has the longest coastline in the world, about 243,000 kms in length.

A funny fact about Canada\’s city of Montreal, sometimes called The City of Churches, is that it has more churches than houses!
Canada is also home to the world\’s smallest jail, located in Ontario. It is only 270 square feet.
It also has the highest tertiary education enrollment in the world, which includes locals as well as international students.

Here\’s a weird fact about Canada, it produces so much energy, that it provides it to the US too!

People in Canada have several rights to amend laws and the governments.
Canada’s public health care system
Canada’s health insurance system is set up to address people’s requirements for health care rather than their ability to make the payment. All Canadians and permanent residents may get health insurance. Getting a health insurance allows you to get medical treatment without making direct payment. They are paid through your taxes. Primary School
American children go to school at the age of five years which is called kindergarten. The second year at school is termed as first grade. In America, the terminology grade stands for the score obtained on an exam or in a course, and a year of schooling in primary or secondary school. Primary school generally consists of five years of education.
Secondary School
After completion of fifth grade, they advance to secondary school, which typically consists of seven years, from sixth through twelfth grades. The ninth through twelfth grades are generally termed as high school, at the end of which the high school diploma certificate is earned. The students must acquire a high school diploma prior to admission into university or college. Foreign students must have completed coursework equivalent to American high school and must consider how their selected high school can enable them access to the best colleges.
Undergraduate School
Students aspiring to attend college or university after completion of high school must attend undergraduate school. These schools offer either a two-year Associate degree or a four-year Bachelor degree in a specific course of study. That course is called the major. Although most schools offering a four-year degree, will accept students who have not chosen a major, all students are required to choose (or declare) a major by their second year at school. After completion of an Associate degree the student can continue to study at a four-year school and finally earn a Bachelor degree.
Graduate School
After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree student can continue to pursue one out of two types of degrees. One is a Master’s degree which is generally a two-year degree that is highly specialized in a particular field. Students willing to advance their education in a specific field can pursue a Doctorate degree, called a PhD. This degree may take between three and six years to complete, based on the course of study selected, the potential of the student, and the thesis being selected.
Some courses of study are only available at the graduate level in America. The most popular of these are dentistry, law, and medicine. Bachelor’s degree is the first requisite to pursue these specific fields.
